قَالَ نَصْرٌ وَ قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ وَ أَبُو الطُّفَيْلِ اسْتَقْبَلُوا عَلِيّاً بِمِائَةِ مُصْحَفٍ وَ وَضَعُوا فِي كُلِّ مُجَنِّبَةٍ مِائَتَيْ مُصْحَفٍ وَ كَانَ جَمِيعُهَا خَمْسَمِائَةِ مُصْحَفٍ
قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع ثُمَّ قَامَ الطُّفَيْلُ بْنُ أَدْهَمَ حِيَالَ عَلِيٍّ ع وَ قَامَ أَبُو شُرَيْحٍ حِيَالَ الْمَيْمَنَةِ وَ وَرْقَاءُ بْنُ الْمُعْتَمِرِ حِيَالَ الْمَيْسَرَةِ ثُمَّ نَادَوْا يَا مَعْشَرَ الْعَرَبِ اللَّهَ اللَّهَ فِي النِّسَاءِ وَ الْبَنَاتِ وَ الْأَبْنَاءِ مِنَ الرُّومِ وَ الْأَتْرَاكِ وَ أَهْلِ فَارِسَ غَداً إِذَا فَنِيتُمْ اللَّهَ اللَّهَ فِي دِينِكُمْ هَذَا كِتَابُ اللَّهِ بَيْنَنَا وَ بَيْنَكُمْ
فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ ع اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُمْ مَا الْكِتَابَ يُرِيدُونَ فَاحْكُمْ بَيْنَنَا وَ بَيْنَهُمْ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْحَكَمُ الْحَقُّ الْمُبِينُ
فَاخْتَلَفَ أَصْحَابُ عَلِيٍّ ع فِي الرَّأْيِ فَطَائِفَةٌ قَالَتِ الْقِتَالُ وَ طَائِفَةٌ قَالَتِ الْمُحَاكَمَةُ إِلَى الْكِتَابِ وَ لَا يَحِلُّ لَنَا الْحَرْبُ وَ قَدْ دُعِينَا إِلَى حُكْمِ الْكِتَابِ فَعِنْدَ ذَلِكَ بَطَلَتِ الْحَرْبُ وَ وَضَعَتْ أَوْزَارَهَا.
Nasr said, ‘And Abu Ja’far-asws said: ‘And Abu Al-Tufeyl received Ali-asws with one hundred Qurans, and they had placed two hundred Quran in every flank, and the entirety of these were five hundred Qurans. Abu Ja’far-asws said, ‘Then Al-Tufeyl Bin Ad’ham stood facing Ali-asws, and Abu Shureyh stood facing the right flank, and Warqa’a Bin Am Mo’tamar facing the left flank. Then they called out, ‘O community of the Arabs! Allah-azwj! Allah-azwj regarding the women and the daughters, and the sons from the Romans, and the Turks, and the people of Persia tomorrow when you are annihilated! Allah-azwj! Allah-azwj regarding your religion! This is the Book of Allah-azwj between us and you all! ’
Ali-asws said: ‘O Allah-azwj! You-azwj Know it is not the Book of Allah-azwj they are wanting, so Judge between us and them, surely You-azwj are the Judge of the clear truth! ’
The companions of Ali-asws differed in the views. A group said, ‘The battle! ’ And a group said, ‘The judgment is to the Book, and the war is not permissible for us, and we are being called to the judgment of the Book! ’ During that, the war was invalidated and its burdens were placed down (terminated)’’. [56]
