Hadith 293

(The book) ‘Kashaf Al Ghumma, from (the book) ‘Musnad’ of Ahmad Bin Hanbal, from Abdullah Bin Bureyda, from his father having said, ‘I had hated Ali-asws with such a hatred, I had not hated anyone at all, and I loved a man from Quraysh I did not love him except upon his hatred for Ali-asws’. He said, ‘That man was sent upon a cavalry, and I accompanied him. I did not accompany him except upon his hatred of Ali-asws. We attained captives. He wrote to Rasool-Allah-saww, ‘Sent someone to us who can take its fifth (khums)’. He-saww sent Ali-asws to us, and among the captives there was a maid of honour (a maid in waiting for a vip) being from the best of the captives’. He (the narrator) said, ‘And he-asws apportioned and came out, and his-asws head was dripping (sweat). We said, ‘O Abu Al-Hassan-asws! What is this? ’ He-asws said: ‘Didn’t you look at the maid of honour who was among the captives? I-asws apportioned the khums, and she came to be in the khums, then she came to be in People-asws of the Household of the Prophet-saww, then she came to be in the family of Ali-asws, and I-asws took her’’. He (the narrator) said, ‘The man wrote to the Prophet-saww of Allah-azwj. I said, ‘Send me as a ratifier’. I went on to read the letter and I said, ‘You speak the truth’. I withheld my hand and the letter. He-saww said, ‘Do you hate Ali-asws? ’ I said, ‘Yes’. He-saww said, ‘Do not hate him-asws, and if you had been loving him-asws, then increase the love for him-asws, for by the One-azwj in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad-saww! The share of Ali-asws in the Khums is better than a maid of honour’. He (the narrator) said, ‘After the words of Rasool-Allah-saww, there was none from the people more beloved to me than Ali-asws’. Abdullah said, ‘By the One-azwj Who, there is no god apart from Him-azwj! There was no one between me and the Prophet-saww regarding this Hadeeth apart from Abu Bureyda’’. [135]
